Abstract

Eggy Kurnia Hakiki, 41182109210018: Improving Students’ Mathematical Conceptual Understanding on Number Line Material Through Mogabil Visual Media in Grade III of SDN Pulogebang 01. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. This study was motivated by the low level of students’ understanding of mathematical concepts in number line material among third-grade students at SDN Pulogebang 01, as indicated by a learning mastery percentage of only 68%. The low conceptual understanding was caused by teacher-centered learning, which made students experience difficulties in understanding arithmetic operations on the number line. To overcome this problem, the study implemented Mogabil (Mobile Number Line) visual media as an interactive learning medium to improve students’ mathematical conceptual understanding. This study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 31 third-grade students of SDN Pulogebang 01. Data collection techniques included written tests, observations, and documentation based on five indicators of mathematical conceptual understanding. The results showed that in Cycle I, the students’ learning mastery percentage reached 68% with an average score of 69, and it increased in Cycle II to 90% with an average score of 85. Improvements were also found in each indicator of students’ mathematical conceptual understanding, especially in classifying concepts and applying arithmetic operation procedures on the number line. Therefore, the use of Mogabil visual media was proven effective in improving students’ mathematical conceptual understanding of number line material in Grade III of SDN Pulogebang 01. The novelty of this research lies in the use of digital Mogabil visual media based on scratch.mit.edu, combined with hands-on practice activities, media rotation systems, and active learning approaches to help students understand addition and subtraction concepts on the number line in a concrete and systematic way.
