Abstract

This research is motivated by the need for innovative learning models that can improve the quality of students’ learning processes, particularly in Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The research problem focuses on two main questions: (1) How is the implementation of the Flipped Classroom model in PAI learning at SMAN 1 Tambun Utara? and (2) What is the impact of the Flipped Classroom model on students’ learning independence? The purpose of this study is to analyze the application of the Flipped Classroom model in enhancing students’ learning independence in PAI at SMAN 1 Tambun Utara. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, as well as documentation related to the learning process. The findings reveal that the flipped classroom approach successfully improves students’ active engagement in PAI learning. Students who were previously passive began to take the initiative to study independently using videos and digital learning materials before classroom sessions. This had a positive impact on their ability to participate in discussions, express opinions, and solve problems presented by the teacher. In conclusion, the flipped classroom model is effective in fostering Generation Z’s independent learning skills as well as problem-solving abilities in PAI learning, despite challenges related to technological access and students’ conventional learning habits.
