Abstract
This research is motivated by the low reading comprehension skills in the process of learning Indonesian. This can be observed from students who are unable to determine the main idea of each paragraph, understand the meaning of words used by the researcher in the reading text, answer questions completely, retell the content of the text using their own words, and summarize the content of the reading text. The purpose of this research is to improve the reading comprehension skills of Grade IV students in Indonesian at SDN Kalijaya 05, Bekasi Regency. The method used is the Classroom Action Research (CAR) model conducted in two cycles. This research was carried out in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of three meetings through the stages of planning, implementation, assessment, and reflection. The subjects of this research are Grade IV students at SDN Kalijaya 05, Bekasi Regency, totaling 49 students, consisting of 15 male students and 34 female students. The success indicator of this research is 85% with the predetermined research completeness criteria being 70. From the results of the study, the percentage of classical completeness in Cycle I was 53.06% with an average score of 64.02. In Cycle II, the percentage of classical completeness increased to 87.75% with an average score of 78.79. This shows that there is an improvement in students' reading comprehension skills using the GIST (Generation Interaction Schemata and Text) method.
