Abstract

The study was underestimated by the low reading skills in the Indonesian language learning process. It can be seen from 30 students who are unable to read, i.e., 13 students who are still less able to read words and sentences with the spelling of letters corresponding to the reading text. Besides, 18 students are not capable of reading words and phrases smoothly, and during the reading of words and phrases activities, there are still 20 students whose clarity of the student's voice is still slow. This study aims to find out the improvement of the reading skills of the beginning through the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) in students of Class I SDN Duren Jaya IV Bekasi. The method used is a class action research model. (PTK). The research is carried out in two cycles, with each cycle conducting three meetings through phases of planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection. In each research cycle, use text-reading instruments. Data analysis is descriptive. The subject of the study was a student of the first class of SDN Duren Jaya IV Bekasi, which totaled 30 students and consisted of 14 male students and 16 female students. The indicator of success in this study is 100%, with a defined KKM of 80. The results of this study showed that there was an improvement in student reading skills at the beginning of each cycle, i.e. in the first cycle the classical accuracy of 73.33% with an average score of 76,58 and in the second cycle classic accuration increased to 100% with a mean score of 88,58. Thus it can be concluded that the Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) can improve the initial reading skills by 26.67% in the students of Class I SDN Duren Jaya IV Bekasi.
