Abstract

This research is motivated by the issue of low understanding subjects of science concepts among fifth-grade students at SDN Karang Satria 01. The problems identified include: 1) Students are unable to explain the learned material adequately, 2) Students struggle to provide examples of the learned material, 3) Students have difficulty categorizing the material, and 4) Students find it challenging to draw conclusions from the material. Therefore, the aim of this research is to improve conceptual understanding in science subjects for class V students by implementing the Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) type cooperative learning model at SDN Karang Satria 01. The research method employed is Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, involving 36 students, with each cycle comprising three meetings. Each cycle includes four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection involves written tests, with the success criterion set at 80%, based on the predetermined minimum passing grade of 75. The results indicate an improvement in students' understanding of concepts in each cycle. In Cycle I, the classical mastery reached 47.22% with an average score of 62.08, while in Cycle II, the classical mastery increased to 80.55% with an average score of 79.30. Based on these data, the Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) model contributed to a 33.33% enhancement in students' understanding of science concepts in fifth-grade at SDN Karang Satria 01. Therefore, it can be concluded that the TAI model effectively improves students' understanding of science concepts in fifth-grade at SDN Karang Satria 01.
