Abstract

ABSTRACT The background of this research is the low reading comprehension of students at SDN Danau Indah 02 Cikarang Barat. Which is marked by the lack of students' ability in reading comprehension. Reading Comprehension in class III students at SDN Danau Indah 02 West Cikarang is still very low because most of the students experience difficulty in reading comprehension, which includes finding the main ideas contained in the text, explaining the contents of the reading either explicitly or implied in the story, composing summary, explaining the contents of the text in their own sentences. The following is data on the average value of students in reading comprehension, namely with a percentage of 16% of 12 students, there are 2 students. The purpose of this study was to see an increase in reading comprehension using the Directed Reading Thinking Activity method in class III SDN Danau Indah 02 Cikarang Barat. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) with III cycles. Each cycle is carried out four stages of planning, the implementation stage of the action, the observation stage, and the reflection stage. The number of students in the class that the researcher conducted was 12 male students, namely 6 and the number of female students, namely 7. The data collection technique in this study used observation guidelines and written tests. The success indicator that was measured in this study was the students' ability in reading comprehension. This research was declared successful if 90% of the number of students reached ≥ 75. The results showed that the classical completeness class III. Increase from cycle I to cycle III. The percentage of classical completeness in cycle I was 33.33% with an average value of 58.33. In cycle II, classical completeness increased to 83% with an average value of 85.17. In cycle III the classical completeness increased to 100% with an average score of 94. By using the Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) method the teacher is more able to motivate students' efforts in reading comprehension, makes students more focused on reading texts, can increase student concentration by involving students intellectually and encourage them to be more active, make students read clearly by connecting various knowledge that students already have to build an understanding, and be able to understand every prediction in every content of the reading text. So that reading comprehension can be accomplished properly, thus it can be concluded that the Directed Reading Thinking Activity method can improve the reading comprehension of class III students at SDN Danau Indah 02 Cikarang Barat by using the Directed Reading Thinking Activity method.
