Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, school activities or learning carried out by learning at the parents' homes became the focus for children with special needs because most of them have not been able to learn independently. Parents have an important role in guiding children, especially children with special needs in doing distance learning or learning at home. Descriptive qualitative research methods and data collection techniques through interviews, observations and documentation. The theory used refers to five positive attitudes in interpersonal communication according to Devito, namely Openness, Empathy, Supportive Attitude, Positive Attitude, and Equity. The results of this study show that parents have an important role in assisting children with special needs in distance learning and also the communication strategy carried out by the two informants, namely must understand the child's characteristics or diagnosis, so that in carrying out distance learning children run effectively. His research recommendations can be used with Scharm's theory.
