Abstract

Norma Rae's film is based on the true story of a textile factory worker named Crystal Lee Sutton who actively organizes a trade union in a textile factory in the small town of Ranaoke Rapids, New York City. The film directed by Martin Ritt, presents a political drama film that deals with the social life of workers in America in the 1970s. This study aims to determine how the narrative function and hero character are represented in the film Norma Rae. This study uses the anaysis of narrative function and analysis of the character of Vladimir Propp. The research process is gradual., starting from determining the issue, collecting data, and analyzing serveral characters in the film. The result obtained from this study are that there 15 narative function and 4 character in the Norma Rae film. These character are Hero, Villain,Helper, and Donor. The hero character as the focus of research is found in the narative function of Counteraction, Depature, Guidance, 1 donor function, struggle, Hero reaction, and Branding. keyword : Film, Narrative, Working class hero, Vladimir Propp.
