Abstract

This research was motivated by the low science learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN Pekayon Jaya VI on the properties of light. Of the 30 students, 19 (63.3%) failed to achieve the minimum grade point average (KKTP) of 75, while only 11 (36.7%) achieved the mastery level. Based on these conditions, this study aims to improve science learning outcomes through the application of the CLIS (Children's Learning in Science) learning model. This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with the Tampubolon Initial Reflection model (2014), which was implemented in two cycles, including the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Before implementing cycle I, the researcher first conducted a pre-cycle or initial reflection to determine the initial learning conditions. The subjects of this study were 30 fifth-grade students. Data collection techniques used written tests, observation, and documentation. The indicator of research success was determined if at least 80% of students obtained a score of ≥ 75. The results of the study indicate that the application of the CLIS (Children’s Learning in Science) learning model can improve students’ science learning outcomes. This is indicated by the increase in the average value of learning outcomes from 71 in Cycle I to 84.5 in Cycle II. The percentage of classical learning completion also increased by 20% from 63.33% in Cycle I to 83.33% in Cycle II, thus fulfilling the research success indicators, namely a minimum of 80% of students achieving the KKTP. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the CLIS (Children’s Learning in Science) learning model is able to improve science learning outcomes on the material of light properties of grade V students of SDN Pekayon Jaya VI.
