Abstract
Mathematical problem-solving skills are essential competencies that elementary school students are expected to develop. However, the fourth-grade students at SDN Bantargebang II demonstrated relatively low problem-solving abilities, particularly in understanding word problems, determining appropriate solution strategies, and reviewing their answers. This study aimed to determine whether the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model could improve students' mathematical problem-solving skills on the topic of plane figures. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, with each cycle consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research participants were 22 fourth-grade students of SDN Bantargebang II in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The findings revealed that the average score of students' mathematical problem-solving skills increased from 40.3 in the preliminary test to 75.6 in Cycle I, with a classical mastery level of 44%, and further improved to 93.3 in Cycle II, with a classical mastery level of 96%, increased by 52% from Cycle I to Cycle II. In addition, students' learning activities also showed significant improvement throughout the learning process. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model effectively improved the mathematical problem-solving skills of fourth-grade students at SDN Bantargebang II on the topic of plane figures. Keywords: Problem Based Learning (PBL), mathematical problem-solving skills, plane figures, Classroom Action Research (CAR).
