Abstract

Self-confidence in sports is a key factor influencing athletic performance. Preliminary findings from a study of athletes at PB Mustika Badminton revealed self-doubt and difficulty maintaining focus during competition. This study aims to investigate the effect of imagery rehearsal training on improving self-confidence in sports. This study employed a quantitative experimental method using a two-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. The study sample consisted of 30 athletes divided into an experimental group and a control group, each comprising 15 athletes. Data were collected using the Athlete Self-Confidence Questionnaire (ASQ) and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the Mann-Whitney U Test. The results showed that the experimental group’s self-confidence scores increased from 33.53 to 78.53 following the training. The Wilcoxon test revealed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test (p = 0.001 < 0.05), while the Mann-Whitney test showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (p = 0.000 < 0.05). Thus, imagery rehearsal training effectively enhances self-confidence in sports among athletes at PB Mustika Badminton.
