Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of self-control and conformity on verbal aggression among social media users. Social media, as a digital communication platform, facilitates interactions but also serves as a medium for various forms of aggression, including verbal aggression. This research employed a quantitative correlational method. The sample consisted of 34 students from Universitas Islam 45 Bekasi who are active social media users, selected using a simple random sampling technique. The instruments used were psychological scales measuring self-control, conformity, and verbal aggression. Data were analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation and multiple linear regression. The results showed that self-control did not significantly affect verbal aggression (p = 0.060), while conformity had a significant correlation with verbal aggression (p = 0.026). However, the regression analysis indicated that conformity did not significantly influence verbal aggression. These findings suggest that although conformity is correlated with verbal aggression, its statistical contribution is relatively low. This study highlights the importance of developing self-control and awareness of social pressure to reduce the risk of verbal aggression on social media.
