Abstract

Surface roughness of a product plays an important role, especially for materials such as S45C steel which is now widely used in various industrial needs. Determination of milling machining parameters and the appropriate type of cooling media is very important to obtain the desired surface roughness. The research method used in this study is the experimental method, which is a method used to test the effect of one variable on another variable or test how the causal relationship between one variable and another. The results of research on “Analysis of Feeding Motion and Variations in the Type of Cooling Media Against Metal Surface Roughness of Milling Machining Results in S45c Material” obtained data in the form of numbers. The data includes surface roughness tests of S45C steel workpieces from the influence of variations in cooling media and different feeding motions. The purpose of this research is to determine the ideal feed motion value and type of cooling media in the milling machining process of S45C steel material. The feed parameters used are 0.10 mm/rotation, and 0.30 mm/rotation. While the types of cooling media used are Oil Lub Cut 503s, Super Coolant Radiator Water and Palm Oil. Surface roughness results are obtained through testing using a surface roughness measuring instrument. From the parameters that have been determined, the smallest roughness value is obtained in the condition of the feeding speed of 0.10 mm/rotation using Lub Cut 503s Oil with a result of 1.914 µm, while the largest roughness value occurs in the condition of 0.30 mm/rotation feeding speed using Palm Oil with a result of 4.368 µm.
