Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is based on the problem of students lack of reading comprehension skills in the Indonesian language subject in the fourth grade at SDN Ciantra 01. The issues identified are: students are not yet able to understand the content of the reading material well, students have difficulty answering questions related to the text, and students are also unable to draw conclusions from the reading material. This research aims to improve students' reading comprehension skills by applying the preview, question, read, reflect, recite, review (PQ4R) method. This research was conducted using the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, with the first procedure being to identify the problems occurring at SDN Ciantra 01, then planning the actions to be taken in the research. After that, the actions were implemented using the preview, question, read, reflect, recite, review (PQ4R) method to improve students' reading comprehension skills, followed by observation and finally reflection. This research was carried out in 2 cycles, with each cycle consisting of 3 meetings. The instrument used was a written test with 4 essay questions. From the results of the first cycle, a classical completeness rate of 58% was achieved with an average score of 71, and in the second cycle, a result of 91% was achieved with an average score of 85. Based on the results of the classical completeness achieved in the first and second cycles, there was an increase of 33%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the PQ4R (preview, question, read, reflect, recite, review) method can improve reading comprehension skills in the Indonesian language subject in the fourth grade at SDN Ciantra 01 Cikarang.
