Abstract

ABSTRACT The increasing use of smartphones among university students has raised the risk of smartphone addiction, which is influenced by psychological factors such as social anxiety and self-control. This study aimed to examine the relationships between social anxiety, self-control, and smartphone addiction among students at Universitas Islam "45" Bekasi. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 356 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using psychological scales. Instrument validity was assessed using Aiken's V, construct validity, and item discrimination index, while reliability was measured using Cronbach's Alpha (smartphone addiction = 0.909; social anxiety = 0.884; self-control = 0.842). Data were analyzed using Spearman's Rank Correlation and multiple linear regression. The findings indicated that social anxiety was positively associated with smartphone addiction, self-control was negatively associated with smartphone addiction, and both variables simultaneously had a significant effect on smartphone addiction.
