Abstract
This study was motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of students, as indicated by their inability to answer explicit questions from the text, identify the main ideas, draw conclusions, and solve everyday problems based on reading materials. This Classroom Action Research aimed to improve students' reading comprehension skills using the Discovery Learning model. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method consisting of two cycles. Each cycle included four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 24 students of class VB at SDN Pasar Manggis 03, consisting of 12 female and 12 male students. The research adopted the spiral model of Kemmis & McTaggart, which includes the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research instruments used in this study were a teacher activity observation sheet and an essay test. The success indicator of the study was set at 80%, meaning the study was considered successful if at least 80% of the students achieved a score of ≥ 80. The results showed that the class's overall mastery improved from cycle I to cycle II. The classical completeness in cycle I was 50% with an average score of 72, which increased to 88% in cycle II with an average score of 86. Based on the research results, there was a 38% increase in the classical completeness percentage from Cycle I to Cycle II. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Discovery Learning model can enhance reading comprehension skills in the Indonesian language subject for fifth-grade students at SDN Pasar Manggis 03.
