Abstract
This research is based on the low understanding of students in science subjects in grade IV of SDN Kaliabang Tengah VIII. The problem is that students have difficulties in: explaining the material using their own language, giving examples other than those given by the teacher during learning, grouping objects according to the concepts learned, interpreting the learning materials learned, comparing objects according to the concepts learned, summarizing the learning materials taught by the teacher at the time of learning, summarizing the learning materials that have been taught. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to improve the understanding of the concept of fourth grade students of SDN Kaliabang Tengah VIII by using the POE (Predict Observe Explain) model. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK). This research was carried out in 2 cycles, each cycle was carried out 3 times and went through the stages of planning, implementation, assessment and reflection. The subjects of this study are grade IV students of SDN Kaliabang Tengah VIII which totals 28 students, consisting of 18 male students and 10 female students. The indicator of the success of this research is 80% of the number of students who achieve the KKM score, which is 75. From the results of the study, the percentage of classical completeness in the first cycle was 53% with an average score of 71. In cycle II, the classical completeness percentage increased to 82% with an average score of 84. Thus, it can be concluded that the POE (Predict Observe Explain) model can increase the understanding of concept for fourth grade students.
