Abstract

This research is based on the low understanding of students in science subjects in grade IV of SDS Islam Al-Akhyar. The problem is that students have difficulties in: explaining the material using their own language, giving examples other than those given by the teacher at the time of learning, classifying or grouping objects according to the concepts studied, comparing objects according to the concepts studied, interpreting the material using their own language, analyzing the learning materials taught by the teacher at the time of learning, drawing references in the learning materials that taught by the teacher at the time of learning, summarizing the learning material taught by the teacher at the time of learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out how to improve the understanding of concepts by using the Point Counter Point (PCP) model can increase the understanding of concepts of grade IV students of SDS Islam Al-Akhyar. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK). This research was carried out in 2 cycles, each cycle was carried out 3 meetings and went through the stages of planning, implementation, assessment and reflection. The subject of this study is the fourth grade students of SDS Islam Al-Akhyar which totals 35 students, consisting of 16 male students and 19 female students. The indicator of the success of this study is 80% of the number of students who achieve the KKM score, which is 75. From the results of the study, the percentage of classical completeness in the first cycle was 51% with an average score of 73. In the second cycle, the percentage of classical completeness increased to 86% with an average score of 82. Thus, it can be concluded that the Point Counter Point (PCP) model can increase the concept understanding of grade IV students of SDS Islam Al-Akhyar by 35%.
