Abstract

This study is motivated by the low mastery of vocabulary in learning English, this can be seen in the condition of students who are still wrong in writing vocabulary, responses that are quite long and confused in interpreting vocabulary, pronunciation that is not correct on vocal letters and students are still confused in compiling vocabulary into a complete sentence. The purpose of this study is to improve vocabulary mastery using the scramble model for fourth grade students of SDIT Mutiara Hati Bekasi. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which was carried out in two cycles with three meetings in each cycle. The subjects of this study were fourth grade students of SDIT Mutiara Hati Bekasi, totaling 24 students, consisting of 14 male students and 10 female students. The success indicator of this study is 80% with a predetermined minimum score of 75. In this research there were twenty new vocabulary about work learned over two cycles (six meetings). The results of this study showed an increase in mastery of English vocabulary from cycle I to cycle II. Classical completeness in cycle I was 66.66% with an average score of 77.25 then in cycle II there was an increase in classical completeness to 87.5% with an average score of 86.54. So it can be concluded that the scramble model can improve mastery of English vocabulary by 20.39% in grade IV students of SDIT Mutiara Hati Bekasi.
