Abstract

This research is motivated by the low reading skills of the students of SD Negeri Kalijaya 07 which are still low. It can be seen that students have difficulty in pronouncing vowels/consonants, students have difficulty in voicing words/sentences, students are not fluent in reading words/sentences, students are not yet clear in pronouncing words/sentences. The aim of the study was to improve early reading skills using the global method with the help of pictures for students at SD Negeri Kalijaya 07. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 2 (two) cycles. Each cycle carried out four stages, namely the stages of planning, implementation, action and reflection. The number of students in the research class was 22 students, the number of female students was 7 and the number of male students was 15. Data collection techniques in this study used performance tests and observations. The results showed that the classical mastery of class I increased from cycle I to cycle II. Beginning reading skills in the first cycle is 62% with an average value of 47. In the second cycle classical completeness increases to 81% with an average of 71.19. Thus it can be concluded that the global method can improve early reading skills in grade I SD Negeri Kalijaya 07. The impact of using global methods, teachers become more creative in using methods in learning and students become more interested in reading, so that learning can be achieved well.
