Abstract
This research is motivated by the issue of low understanding of studens’ mathematical concepts among fifth-grade students at SDN Duren Jaya XIV. The problems identified include: 1) Students still have difficulty in restating what the teacher explained, 2) Students have not been able to give examples that include fractions, 3) when given an example of a picture students find it difficult to interpret mathematical concepts, 4) Students also still have difficulty in developing the conditions of a fraction concept, 5) Students also still have difficulty in using working procedures on a problem, 6) Students cannot solve story form problems related to everyday life. To address these issues, the Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectualy (SAVI) model is implemented, aiming to enhance the understanding of mathematical concepts in fifth-grade students at SDN Duren Jaya XIV. The research method employed is Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, involving 31 students, with each cycle comprising three meetings. Each cycle includes four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection involves written tests, with the success criterion set at 80%, based on the predetermined minimum passing grade of 75. The results indicate an improvement in students' understanding of concepts in each cycle. In Cycle I, the classical mastery reached 35% with an average score of 57,9, while in Cycle II, the classical mastery increased to 87% with an average score of 85,1. Based on these data, the Somatic, Auditory, Visual, Intellectualy (SAVI) model contributed to a 52% enhancement in students' understanding of mathematical concepts in fifth-grade at SDN Duren Jaya XIV. Therefore, it can be concluded that the SAVI model effectively improves students' understanding of mathematical concepts in fifth-grade at SDN Duren Jaya XIV.
