Abstract

Song lyrics are one of the materials studied by many researchers. One of the researchers' goals in studying song lyrics is to analyze the meaning or intention of the song created by the songwriter. One of the meanings studied in this research is the connotative meaning in a collection of song lyrics. In this research I used descriptive qualitative research methods. Then, in this research I used a collection of song lyrics on Taylor Swift's Midnights album as the object of my research. Therefore, the results of research from a collection of song lyrics on Taylor Swift's album Midnights were the discovery of positive connotative meanings and negative connotative meanings. The positive connotative meanings in this collection of song lyrics are spiral, desk, maroon, tea time, altruism, sprinkler, fireplace ashes, potion, sunshine, penthouse, diamonds, and clockwork. Meanwhile, the negative connotative meanings in this collection of song lyrics are melancholia, graveyard shift, rooting, wasteland, cat eye, sapphire, labyrinth, smooth-talking, pawn, brainwash, freeloading, and blackout.
