Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of low understanding of students' concepts in mathematics where 62% of the total number of students have not reached the completeness value (KKM). This is reinforced by most students who do not understand mathematical concepts and have difficulty explaining the material that has been learned, students have not been able to use, utilize and select certain procedures or operations, students have not been able to present concepts in various forms of mathematical representation, students have not been able to apply fraction concepts or algorithms to problem solving. This study aims to improve students' understanding of concepts through the application of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) type cooperative learning model to improve the understanding of mathematics concepts of grade I students at SD Negeri Wanasari 04, Bekasi Regency. The research method used was classroom action research (PTK) which was carried out in two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings and four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects of this study were first grade students totaling 32 students, consisting of 17 boys and 15 girls. Data collection was carried out through written tests in the form of descriptions to measure concept understanding and observation sheets for activities to implement the learning model. Data analysis was carried out with an indicator of success in this study if 80% of the total number of students reached the predetermined KKM score of 75. Based on the results of research from each cycle, it was found that the clasical percentage increase in cycle I activities was 62% with an average score of 75, in cycle II the clasical completeness was 87% with an average score of 85. Thus it can be concluded that the application of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) type cooperative learning model can improve the understanding of mathematics concepts of grade I students of SD Negeri Wanasari 04 Bekasi Regency.
