Abstract

Southeast Asian Nations revealed that only 8% of Indonesian employees are committed to their jobs. The Towers Watsons survey in the Global Workforce Study obtained almost the same results, where two-thirds of employees in Indonesia do not have a high attachment to their work. The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in the world including Indonesia, makes this an important motivator to show that work engagement is important for companies. Employees who have an attachment to work will be enthusiastic and feel comfortable when doing work, have good performance so as to increase work productivity. Work engagement is influenced by several factors, namely quality of work life and self-determination. The purpose of this study is to know the description and influence of quality of work life and self-determination on employee work engagement at PT. Tokyo Seimitsu Buhin Indonesia. This study uses a correlational research design with a quantitative approach method and a population of 54 employees of PT. Tokyo Seimitsu Buhin Indonesia. The sampling technique uses a saturated sample technique. Methods of data collection using interviews and psychological scales, namely the Quality of Work Life scale, Self Determination scale, and Work Engagement scale using a modified Likert scale model. Test the reliability of measurement instruments using teh Cronbach Alpha formula with a value of r alpha = 0.959 for the Quality of Work Life scale, r alpha = 0.941 for the Self Determination scale, and r alpha = 0.952 for the Work Engagement scale. The results of the data analysis description of teh categorization of the Quality of Work Life variable were dominated by the medium category (48.1%), the Self Determination variable was dominated by the medium category (50%) and the Work Engagement variable was dominated by the high category (51.9). The results of the Spearman's rho correlation test between Quality of Work Life and Work Engagement show that there is a significant positive relationship with a correlation coefficient of 0.835 (very strong) and a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05). The results of the Spearman's rho correlation test between Self Determination and Work Engagement show that there is a significant positive relationship with a correlation coefficient of 0.808 (very strong) and a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.05). The results of multiple linear regression tests between Quality of Work Life and Self Determination on Work Engagement show an F value of 85,224 and a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), which means that Quality of Work Life and Self Determination have a positive influence on Work Engagement of employees of PT. Tokyo Seimitsu Buhin Indonesia. Based on the results of teh determinant coefficient (R2) of 0.770, it means that Quality of Work Life and Self-Determination affect Work Engagement by 77%, while the remaining 23% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study.
