Abstract

Suicide is one of the most serious mental health problems and has become a global issue. This study aims to examine the influence and relationship of family functioning and loneliness on suicidal ideation among college students from broken home families. This research employed a quantitative correlational method using purposive and quota sampling, involving 100 students from Universitas Islam 45 Bekasi. The instruments used were the Rudd Suicide Ideation Scale (R-SIS), Family Assessment Device (FAD), and De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale (DJG-LS), with validity assessed using Aiken’s V and high reliability (α > 0.90). Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results showed that family functioning was not significantly related to suicidal ideation, whereas loneliness had a significant negative relationship with suicidal ideation. Simultaneously, family functioning and loneliness had a significant effect on suicidal ideation (R² = 0.164; p < 0.05).
