Abstract
Painting is an important process in the manufacturing and automotive industries that functions to protect steel materials from corrosion while improving surface aesthetic quality. The quality of painting results is strongly influenced by process parameters, particularly the spraygun nozzle diameter and spraying distance. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in nozzle diameter and spraygun distance on the quality of painting results on galvanized steel using alkyd enamel paint in titan black color. This research employed an experimental method with a quantitative approach. The nozzle diameter variations used were 0.8 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.2 mm, while the spraying distance variations were 20 cm, 35 cm, and 45 cm. The quality of the painting results was evaluated through appearance, adhesion, gloss, thickness, and gasoline resistance tests The results indicate that variations in nozzle diameter and spraying distance significantly affect painting quality. The nozzle diameter shows a significant influence, particularly the 1.0 mm diameter, which produces the best painting quality across all distance variations. In addition, spraying distance also affects the coating quality, where a distance of 35 cm provides the most optimal painting condition with a more uniform surface, good adhesion, high gloss value, and appropriate coating thickness. Based on all test results, it can be concluded that the combination of a 1.0 mm nozzle diameter and a 35 cm spraying distance is the most optimal parameter in producing the best painting quality, in terms of visual appearance, adhesion strength, coating thickness, surface gloss, and gasoline resistance.
