Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of religious extracurricular activities in shaping students’ religious character at SMPN 5 Cikarang Barat and to identify the inhibiting factors in their implementation. The background of this research is based on the importance of religious character education as an effort to overcome moral degradation and deviant behavior that often occur among students. Religious extracurricular activities are considered an effective means of instilling religious values outside formal classroom learning. This research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, religious extracurricular supervisors, and students of SMPN 5 Cikarang Barat. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of religious extracurricular activities at SMPN 5 Cikarang Barat has been carried out quite well and contributes to the formation of students’ religious character, particularly in aspects of faith, obedience in worship, morality, discipline, and responsibility. Religious values are instilled through habituation, role modeling, and active student participation in various religious activities. The inhibiting factors include limited time, a lack of awareness among some students, and the influence of the external environment outside the school. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that religious extracurricular activities play an important role in shaping students’ religious character. Therefore, continuous support and cooperation among schools, teachers, parents, and students are needed so that the implementation of religious extracurricular activities can be carried out more optimally
