Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the types of failures that frequently occur at PD Kayu Ma’mur Pekayon, South Bekasi; to determine the factors contributing to these failures; to examine the implementation of appropriate improvement strategies; and to provide solutions and corrective actions at PD Kayu Ma’mur Pekayon, South Bekasi. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and literature studies. The results show that the quality control performance at PD Kayu Ma’mur has not been optimal and still needs improvement to reduce defective products to the predetermined control limit of 15%. Currently, the company has exceeded the limit, with a defect rate of 17.15%. Based on the checksheet data obtained from PD Kayu Ma’mur, several types of product defects were identified: 168 units with wood cracks, 249 units with joint defects, 194 units with incorrect dimensions, and 235 units with uneven finishing. The total wood frame production in 2023 was 5,736 units, with 847 units identified as defective. Pareto diagram analysis shows that joint defects were the most common at 249 units (29.43%), followed by uneven finishing at 235 units (27.78%), incorrect dimensions at 194 units (22.93%), and wood cracks at 168 units (19.85%). Using a fishbone diagram, four main factors contributing to the highest defect rates were identified: (1) Human factors, such as errors or insufficient training and understanding of established procedures, leading to suboptimal wood production; (2) Machine factors, caused by uncalibrated equipment resulting in delays and non-standard wood frame production; (3) Method factors, due to incorrect procedures; and (4) Material factors, such as rapid shrinkage of raw materials due to poor environmental storage conditions. Histogram analysis indicates that joint defects were the most dominant issue in 2023, with a total of 249 defective units.
