Abstract

This research analyzes the concept of hero in the television series The Boys. The aim of this research is to map the pattern of hero representation in The Boys and link discourses related to the concept of heroes in The Boys with the context of popular culture. The theoretical approaches used in this research are Stuart Hall's theory of representation, Roland Barthes' theory of myth, and Michel Foucault's theory of power and knowledge. The analysis in this research was carried out using a Foucauldian discourse analysis approach. The results of this research indicate that the concept of hero presented in the television series The Boys as a kind of myth. The hero characters in this series are also involved in discourses of white supremacy and male supremacy, which are linked to issues of patriotism and women's subordination. The hero in this series is a product that is worshiped and consumed, which is also related to consumerism and capitalism.
