Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period marked by psychological, social, emotional, and cognitive growth, which affects adolescent behavior. Juvenile delinquency often arises as a result of a lack of leisure activities, environmental influences and a lack of social support. Factors such as environment and social support greatly influence adolescent development. Skateboarding, a dangerous sport but one that teenagers are very interested in, is a potential solution to reduce juvenile delinquency. This research aims to understand the social construction process within the Damnskate community and how its members view skateboarding as a sport or just something that is not a sport. The researcher used a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach, using Peter L. Berger's Social Construction theory through the Dialectic of Externalisation, Objectivation, and Internalisation Processes. The results showed that the Damnskate Community experienced three social construction processes, namely externalisation promoting a peaceful environment through skateboarding activities every day at Cikal Citra Indah park, while objectification showed the community's readiness to contribute to society properly and politely. Internalisation fosters positive traits, appreciating solidarity, togetherness, and identity as very important for the continuity of the Damnskate community. Meaning in the Damnskate community shows how social meaning can foster self-expression, interaction and cooperation in the community space. Skateboarding sport is interpreted as a unique physical activity for the community, while members see the meaning of skateboarding as a home or container for the same hobby. Meanwhile, fashion symbols in the community as the meaning of identity for the Damnskate community, which distinguishes them from ordinary individuals in general.
