Abstract

Multidimensional crisis that occurs in the modern era is a serious problem in this country, especially the degradation of morals and character in the world of Education. Problems of religious character in learners if not immediately addressed quickly, it will bring negative impacts such as increased bullying and immoral behavior in learners. One of the efforts in solving these problems is the need for an exemplary teacher who is housed in a religious literacy program to foster the religious character of students. The approach in this study is a qualitative phenomenological approach. Qualitative research methods are applied to obtain information related to the condition of the object as it is as a key instrument, and through the collection and study of the data, the results of the study will emphasize the meaning rather than generalization. The results of the findings of this study indicate exemplary teachers applied in SMAN 2 Tambun Utara classified as good. It can be seen from the activities of teachers who show commendable behavior through the example they set every day in the school environment. As for some exemplary attitudes of teachers applied in SMAN 2 Tambun Utara is devotion to God, Noble, fair, honest,objective and disciplined. The process of developing the religious character of students at SMAN 2 Tambun Utara with Religious Literacy program accompanied by PAI teachers are: shaking hands and saying Greetings; Yasin and Tahlil; reading the Qur'an and prayer before and after activities; praying in congregation Dhuhr and Friday prayers; supervision of the Qur'an; organizing Istighasah and lecture seven minutes (KULTUM); Social Care. The results of religious literacy activities in the implementation of religious character education students at SMAN 2 Tambun Utara students understand the teachings of Islam comprehensively both in terms of jurisprudence, morals, interpretation of the Koran, and social care. The implication of religious literacy programs in public schools is the development of students who are characterized by good habits in religious literacy programs. The implication of this study for the development of Islamic education is that the character of a student does not have to go through the mastery of Islamic subject matter, but the most important is the habituation of cultural character
