Abstract

Youtube has become one of the most popular social media platforms used for exchanging information through videos. The increasing popularity of Youtube has given rise to a new term in society known as video blogging or often referred to as vlogging. The emergence of vloggers in the world of Youtube has also gained global attention, allowing us to discover various types of content such as beauty and lifestyle vlogs, music, and even daily vlogs, which provide information about both domestic and international cultures. Currently, the culture of South Korea, commonly known as Hallyu, is highly embraced by Indonesian society. The prevalence of South Korean culture is attributed to the influence of South Korean influencers or YouTubers, who provide the desired information to fans of this culture, also known as Kpopers, through their Youtube channels in the form of engaging video blogs that offer insights into South Korean culture. One of these channels is Kimbab Family, which consistently provides information about South Korean culture. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of video blogging messages on the information needs regarding South Korean culture among Kpopers in the Jadetabek area. This study utilizes the uses and gratifications theory, employing a quantitative research method with an explanatory and descriptive approach. The sample for this study was obtained through simple random sampling. The results of this study indicate that video blogging messages on the Kimbab Family Youtube channel have a significant influence on the information needs. Video blogging messages account for 55% of the influence, while the remaining 45% is influenced by other factors, as indicated by the interviews with the sources. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an impact of video blogging messages on the information needs regarding South Korean culture among Kpopers in the Jadetabek area.
