Abstract

In the market, you can find various brands of connecting rod with different prices and quality. The price difference, of course, makes consumers wonder why this is so. To find out this, it is necessary to do a test to find out what causes the price difference between the original connecting rod and the aftermarket. To find out this, two methods of testing are carried out, namely the brinnel hardness test and the microstructure test. The results of this study show that aftermarket connection rods have a higher hardness level with an average value of 212.9 HB, then the original connecting rods get an average hardness value of 201.0 HB. The results of the microstructure test show that the ferrite on the aftermarket connecting rod tends to be more dominant than the original connecting rod.
