Abstract
This research examines the phenomenon of code mixing among Instagram users who use a mixture of English, Indonesian and Korean in their posts and comments. This study aims to understand the influence of identity, background and language used in comments and posts by Instagram users on the use of code mixing. The data was collected through analysis of the content of Instagram posts and comments from a sample of users. The results show that code-mixing is mainly used for expressive purposes, as well as to show a sense of Imagined- global-community. In addition, this study found that code-mixing can also serve as a form of self-approach to something that is popular.
