Abstract

This research is motivated by the low problem-solving abilities in mathematics, particularly in the area of multiplication and division word problems. This can be seen from students who have difficulty understanding the known and unknown elements according to the data scope, difficulty in constructing a mathematical model from word problems, difficulty in applying mathematical problem-solving strategies, and are not yet able to conclude the answer in accordance with the original problem. This research aims to improve mathematical problem-solving skills thru the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning model for third-grade students at SDN Kota Baru IX Bekasi. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles. Each cycle is carried out in four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects in the study consisted of 35 students, comprising 19 boys and 16 girls. The data collection technique in this study uses written tests and observation. The criteria for success in this study are 85% with a predetermined KKM score of 75. The results of this study show that the classical completeness of third-grade students increased from cycle 1 to cycle 2. The classical percentage in cycle 1 was 60% with an average score of 73. In cycle 2, it increased to 97.14% with an average score of 91. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning model results in a significant improvement in the mathematical problem-solving abilities of third-grade students at SDN Kota Baru IX Bekasi.
