Abstract

Excessive social media use may increase social anxiety among university students. This study aimed to examine the effects of social media detox and social connectedness on social anxiety among students at Universitas Islam 45 Bekasi. A quantitative correlational design was employed. The participants were 316 undergraduate students selected using a non-probability sampling technique with purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Social Anxiety Scale, Social Media Detox Scale, and Social Connectedness Scale, which demonstrated satisfactory validity and reliability (Cronbach's α = .892, .773, and .903, respectively). Data were analyzed using Spearman's Rho correlation and multiple linear regression. The results indicated that social media detox and social connectedness were significantly and negatively associated with social anxiety and simultaneously predicted social anxiety (F = 101.125, p = .001, R² = .393). Higher levels of social media detox and social connectedness were associated with lower levels of social anxiety.
