Abstract
Abstract Sibling rivalry is a conflict dynamic between siblings that can persist into adolescence. Parenting style and parental favoritism are frequently assumed to be the primary drivers of this competition. Objective To analyze the relationship between parenting style and parental favoritism on sibling rivalry among middle adolescents. Method This quantitative correlational study utilized a purposive sampling technique to select 174 students from the 10th and 11th grades at SMA Negeri 20 Bekasi City. Data were collected through psychological scales and analyzed using the Pearson ProductMoment correlation test. The majority of subjects exhibited a moderate level of sibling rivalry (51.15%), a high perception of parenting style (68.39%), and a moderate level of favoritism (45.98%). The correlation test indicated no significant relationship between parenting style and sibling rivalry (r = 0.091 p = 0.223) nor between favoritism and sibling rivalry (r = -0.059 p = 0.440). Neither parenting style nor favoritism has a significant linear relationship with sibling rivalry. This insignificance is influenced by the cognitive maturity of 16-year-old adolescents in evaluating parental treatment objectively, alongside structural family buffers such as a wide age gap (more than 4 years) and a dominant birth position of having an older sibling. Keywords: Parenting Style, Favoritism, Sibling Rivalry, Middle Adolescence.
