Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability of students to read. Some students are already fluent in reading but still have difficulty understanding the content of the reading. When reading, students just look at symbols and words without involving the thinking process; students also read by pointing to words and aloud. Apart from that, students are less able to summarize reading and are also less able to determine the moral message in non-fiction texts. This means that only a little understanding is gained from reading, so students become confused when answering exam questions or questions from the teacher. The aim of this research is to determine the application of the method of speed reading to elementary school students' reading comprehension skills. The research method used is systematic literature review (SLR), namely a method that collects data or information related to a discussion and then analyzes the data. The data or information comes from journal articles obtained from the databases Google Scholar and Garuda. This research analyzes 12 journal articles published in the last 10 years regarding the application of the method of speed reading to elementary school students' reading comprehension skills. Several things analyzed in this research include: 1). Based on the research area; 2). Based on year of publication; 3). Based on research methods; 4). Based on class level, namely low class and high class. Based on the results of the analysis of the 12 journals, it is proven that the application of the method of speed reading can improve elementary school students' reading comprehension skills when learning Indonesian.
