Abstract
In universities there are students who are working on their final assignments or what are usually called final year students and experience a lot of pressure. The emergence of stress and depression due to pressure in final year students will reduce the level of subjective well-being. Subjective well-being is also influenced by self-esteem. Because if you have subjective well-being and positive self-esteem, you will be able to overcome life's problems well. Subjective well-being is known to have other factors, one of which is optimism. Optimistic individuals are known to have higher subjective well-being because they have confidence in being able to rise above the problems they face. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between self-esteem and optimism and subjective well-being. This research is quantitative correlational research using non-probability quota sampling techniques. Subjects consisted of 303 final year students. Data was collected through interviews and a psychological scale which includes the variables self-esteem, optimism and subjective well-being using a Likert scale model. The instrument reliability test using Cronbach's Alpha analysis on SPSS version 26 for Windows software produced a ralpha = 0.967 (self-esteem), a ralpha value = 0.957 (optimism) and a ralpha value = 0.970 (subjective well-being). Data analysis in this study used descriptive analysis techniques. Spearman Rank correlation test and multiple linear regression test were used to test the hypothesis. The first hypothesis found a significant relationship between self-esteem and subjective well-being (r = 0.456, p = 0.000 (p<0.05)). Then in the second hypothesis, a significant relationship was found between optimism and subjective well-being (r = 0.443, p = 0.000 (p<0.05)). Next, the third hypothesis was tested using multiple linear regression, finding an F value of 75.173 and a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05). These results show that self-esteem and optimism simultaneously have a significant influence on subjective well-being. The coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.334, which explains that self-esteem and optimism contribute to subjective well-being by 33.4%, while the remaining 66.6% is influenced by other variables not examined in this research.
