Abstract

This research was motivated by the low problem solving abilities of students in class V of MI Bunda Al Ghifari. The problems are: 1. Students cannot determine what is known and asked from the questions given, 2. Students are still confused in determining the mathematical formula to use, 3. Students cannot solve story problems correctly, 4. Students cannot draw conclusions regarding the solution steps that have been taken. In overcoming this problem, the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model was implemented which aims to improve the mathematical problem solving abilities of class V MI Bunda Al Ghifari. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of 2 cycles, with 25 students as subjects and each cycle consisting of 2 meetings. Data collection in this study used written test data collection techniques. The success criteria in this study are 100% with a KKM value of 75. The results of this study indicate that the increase in students' problem-solving abilities in each cycle, namely in cycle I the classical provisions were 64% with an average value of 81 and in cycle II the classical completeness increased to 100% with an average value of 96.5. Based on these data, the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model can increase the problem-solving abilities of class V mathematics by 36%. Thus, it can be concluded that theRealistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model can increase the problem-solving abilities of class V mathematics at MI Bunda Al Ghifari.
