Abstract

This research is motivated by students' low understanding of the concept, this can be seen if in the learning process students do not understand the concept of place value of numbers, including that there are still many students who are not able to restate a concept of place value of numbers, students are not yet able to group the place value of numbers. units, tens, and hundreds, students have not been able to present the place value of numbers in representational form, and there are still many students who cannot solve the questions correctly and do not understand the meaning of the questions, so that the percentage of students' classical understanding of concepts in Mathematics is still very low. namely only 37%. The aim of this research is to increase the conceptual understanding of class IIC students at SDN Kaliabang Tengah II through the Explicit Instruction learning model. The research method used is PTK (Classroom Action Research) which consists of two cycles, each cycle consisting of two meetings and four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The research subjects were 27 students in class IIC at SDN Kaliabang Tengah II, consisting of 14 female students and 13 male students. Data collection was carried out through observation and a written test in the form of a description of 10 questions. Based on the research results from each cycle, an increase in the percentage of classical completeness in cycle I activities was 67% with an average value of 82.6, in cycle II it was 100% with an average value of 97. Increased understanding of students' concepts with the Explicit Instruction model from cycle I to cycle II in Mathematics subjects was 33%. Thus, it can be concluded that the Explicit Instruction model can improve conceptual understanding in class IIC students at SDN Kaliabang Tengah II.
