Abstract
This research was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students in social studies subjects. This is due to the lack of students' level of understanding of the learning material which causes student learning outcomes to decrease. Conditions like this need attention. Therefore, the Word Square learning model could be an alternative solution to overcome this problem. The Word Square learning model involves strong interaction between teachers and students, so that it can increase students' interest in the learning process, allowing students' understanding of the material to develop. Of course, this can generate more optimal student learning outcomes. This research also aims to review the description of the Word Square learning model to improve social studies learning outcomes for elementary school students. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) which refers to 12 journal articles consisting of 3 journals with experimental research and 9 journals with classroom action research which meet the inclusion criteria, namely: indexed by the Google Scholar database, published within the last 10 years. (2012-2022), and discussion in journal articles regarding the Word Square learning model to improve social studies learning outcomes for elementary school students. From each journal article that has been analyzed, various aspects have been found that have been studied by researchers. These aspects include the research area, year of publication of the research, research methods used, implementation in high class and low class. Based on 12 research journals, it shows the conclusion that the Word Square learning model can improve elementary school students' learning outcomes.
