Abstract
In an increasingly modern era like today, coffee shop is not just a place to enjoy coffee and other dishes. But it has become a public space as a vehicle for communication, a socialization center, information center, and also as entertainment. This has happened in many cities, including Jakarta. The phenomenon of ngopi culture in coffee shop has become a way of life for them contemporary urban society. The reasons for urban people to go to coffee shops are of course various and this is commonly found in urban society today. The purpose of this research is to find out more deeply Meaning of Ngopi At the Coffee Shop In Urban Society. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method, and data collection techniques through the observation stage, in-depth interviews and documentation. The theories used in this research refers to the phenomenon that occurs in urban communities in coffee shops, namely lifestyle, social space, symbolic interaction and meaning. The results of the study show that the meaning of ngopi at the coffee shop in urban society many kinds of. The conclusion of this study shows that drinking coffee in a coffee shop is interpreted as a medium of socialization, drinking coffee in a coffee shop as a lifestyle and drinking coffee in a coffee shop as a way of relaxing. Not only that, there is also a consumptive behavior of urban people when visiting coffee shops in this study, such as wanting to meet someone, eliminate boredom and take documentation both photos and videos to upload to social networks. For future research, it is hoped that it will be able to dig deeper into the meaning of drinking coffee, not only in coffee shops, but in other places that are usually used by someone to do coffee activities.
