Abstract

The film Ngeri-ngeri Sedap is one of the films produced by the Imaginary Production House together with the Visionary Film Fund. This film introduces some Toba Batak culture in it. Film is a medium for conveying meaningful communication and is arranged in every scene. The author uses a qualitative method with the approach of Ferdinand De Saussure's semiotic theory which consists of a signifierand a signified. The object of research is the film Ngeri-ngeri Sedap and the unit of analysis is a scene cutout in this film containing Batak culture. The results of the reasch is the film Ngeri-ngeri Sedap is a representation of Batak culture through conflict within a family that occurs in Batak culture. This film communicates Batak culture as a form of knowledge and information about customs in Toba Batak culture by using the genre of comedy and drama.
