Abstract

This study aims to describe the kinds of deixis used and to find out the meaning of deixis in the song lyrics of Olivia Rodrigo Sour album. This research can be analyzed using a pragmatic approach based on Alan Cruse's theory. The data sources obtained from five singles song of Olivia Rodrigo Sour album. Methods of data processing based on descriptive qualitative. The findings of this study show that five singles songs on the Sour album Olivia Rodrigo use all five kinds of deixis. There are 477 data of deixis; 356 (64.5%) data of person deixis, 32 (9.4%) data of spatial deixis, 55 (8%) data of temporal deixis, 16 (4.5%) data of social deixis, and 18 (13.6%) data of discourse deixis. Personal deixis become the dominant deixis because it plays a principal role as the main subject in the song and becomes the orientation basis for other deixis. Although, the meaning of deixis in all the single songs in Sour's album has various references according to the context of each lyrics, It refers to the perspective and relationship of the singer with the intended audience, the person spoken of in the song, the specific time and place that underlies each discourse discussed in song lyrics.
