Abstract

This research is motivated by the low reading comprehension skills of students at SDN Telajung 01. What is characterized by the lack of students' ability to read comprehension is the ability to read comprehension in class V students at SD Negeri Telajung 01 is still relatively low due to various factors ranging from reading difficulties to class conditions that have not conducive, students are still not able to answer questions related to the content of the reading, students have not been able to determine the main idea of the paragraph from the contents of the reading, students have not been able to summarize the contents of the reading. The aim of the research was to improve reading comprehension skills through the SQ4R model (Survey, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) in fifth grade students at SDN Telajung 01. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) with 3 (three) cycles. Each cycle is carried out in four stages, namely the planning, implementation, action and reflection stages. The number of students in the research class is 40 students. The number of male students was 22 and the number of female students was 18. Data collection techniques in this study used performance tests and observation. The success indicator that was measured in this study was the students' ability in reading comprehension skills. This researcher was declared successful if 80% of the total students scored ≥ 75 The results showed that class V classical completeness increased from cycle I to cycle III. The percentage of classical completeness in the first cycle was 58% with an average score of 71. In the second cycle, the classical completeness increased to 70% with an average score of 75. In the third cycle, the classical completeness increased to 80% with an average score of 78. By using the SQ4R model (Survey, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) teachers become more creative in using the model in learning and students become more interested in reading so that students' reading comprehension skills can be completed. Thus it can be concluded that the SQ4R model (Survey, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) can improve reading comprehension skills in class V SDN Telajung 01 Keyword : SQ4R Model (Survey, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review), Reading Comprehension Ability, Elementary School
