Abstract

Speaking skill is one of the essential language skills that elementary school students need to master, as it supports their ability to communicate, express ideas, and interact effectively. However, various studies have shown that students' speaking skills remain relatively low due to a lack of self-confidence, limited opportunities to practice, and the use of less varied teaching methods. One of the methods that can be used to address this problem is the role-playing learning method. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the role-playing learning method in improving the speaking skills of elementary school students in Indonesian language learning. This study employed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, consisting of the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. The literature search was conducted through Google Scholar using predetermined keywords. Based on the selection process according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 15 journal articles published between 2016 and 2026 were selected as the data sources. The findings indicate that the implementation of the role-playing method improves students' speaking skills, as reflected in increased confidence, active participation in learning, speaking fluency, appropriate language use, the ability to express opinions, and greater self-confidence. In addition, the role-playing method creates a more active, enjoyable, and meaningful learning environment by directly involving students in the learning process. Therefore, the role-playing learning method is proven to be an effective alternative for improving speaking skills in Indonesian language learning at the elementary school level.
