Abstract

Eating disorders are among the common problems experienced by adolescents. This study aimed to examine the relationship between social media use intensity, body image, and eating disorders among adolescent TikTok users. A quantitative approach with a correlational design was employed. The participants consisted of 36 adolescents selected using a quota sampling technique. Data were collected using the EAT-26, SONTUS, and a Body Image Scale that had met validity and reliability requirements. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression. The results showed a significant positive relationship between social media use intensity and eating disorders (rₛ = 0.336; p = 0.045), as well as between social media use intensity and body image (rₛ = 0.365; p = 0.028). Meanwhile, no significant relationship was found between body image and eating disorders (rₛ = 0.297; p = 0.079). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that social media use intensity and body image simultaneously had a significant effect on eating disorders (p = 0.025), contributing 20% of the variance.
