Abstract

Energy consumption Monitoring in the industrial sector is important for monitoring operational systems and supporting environmentally friendly efforts. In this study, an IoT-based energy monitoring system was designed using an ESP32 microcontroller connected to a power meter via the Modbus RTU protocol with the help of a MAX485 TTL module. Voltage, amperage, frequency, and energy consumption data are sent in real time using the MQTT protocol and displayed via an interactive and easy-to-understand Node-RED dashboard. This system also stores data in a database, enabling further analysis and displaying automatic alarm notifications when usage exceeds the threshold. Designed with an easy-to-develop concept, this system is suitable for application on various scales as it can help support more sustainable operations. The test results show that the system successfully sent energy parameters using the MQTT protocol and stored them in the MySQL database with a 100% success rate recorded in the database. The system sent notifications to email a total of 10 times, and all of them were successfully sent at the time of the alarm and at the time of recovery when the value returned within the alarm setting range for voltage surges. Accuracy testing on voltage obtained a maximum error value of 0.018%, resulting in an accuracy level of 99.98% and a frequency error percentage of 0.08%, resulting in an accuracy of 99.92%. Electricity consumption reached 100% accuracy because the displayed value was the same as the transmitted value. The implementation of this system is expected to monitor conditions and reduce the risk of human error, as well as speed up the decision-making process.
