Abstract

This study examines interpersonal deception among drivers who engage in online gambling. Online gambling changes drivers' attitudes and behaviors of deception in interpersonal communication, such as damaging their relationships with those around them. This study aims to (1) identify drivers' interpersonal lying behavior, (2) identify the reasons drivers engage in interpersonal lying behavior in relation to online gambling. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with observation, interviews, and documentation. The theory used in this study is interpersonal lying. The results of this study show that drivers who engage in online gambling experience (1) significant changes in their interpersonal communication behavior. (2) The emergence of a systematic pattern of interpersonal lying among drivers as a form of self-defense. (3) Drivers' psychological health is disrupted; those who were previously humorous now become withdrawn and isolate themselves from their social environment.
